Veterinary Surgery
Zumbrota Veterinary Clinic offers a wide range of orthopedic surgical services, from lameness evaluation to fracture treatment. Dr. Nietz has had additional training beyond the traditional veterinary curriculum in fracture fixation via bone plating, intramedular pinning, and the use of external fixators.
Laser Surgery
Our carbon dioxide (CO2) surgical laser replaces the traditional scalpel blade for many surgical procedures. The laser cauterizes tissue as it cuts, resulting in less bleeding, swelling and pain after surgery. Dr. Nietz has taken advanced post-graduate training in laser surgery, and has been using our laser for surgical procedures since 2004.
Declawing
Lasers are a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery. Lasers replace scalpels in many procedures, and are useful for a wide range of conditions, such as cyst, tumor, and wart removal, and can even be used in declawing. Laser procedures result in less pain; less bleeding and less swelling. They reduce risk of infection and result in less post-operative discomfort.
Spaying and Neutering
As a general rule, spaying or neutering can be done at approximately 6-12 months of age. Your pet is given an exam prior to surgery to help determine whether your pet is healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. Current vaccinations are required at the time of surgery. Also a pre-anesthetic blood screen is recommended prior to undergoing anesthesia and surgery.

Laboratory Services
We offer three levels of in-house blood testing before surgery, which we will go over with you when you bring your pet in. Our doctors prefer the more comprehensive screen, because it gives them the most information to ensure the safety of your pet. For geriatric or ill pets, additional blood tests, electrocardiograms, or x-rays may be required before surgery as well.
X-Ray

Our veterinarians have taken additional post-graduate training in veterinary dentistry, which allows us to offer a full range of dental services for your beloved pet, from prophylactic cleanings to nerve blocks, surgical extractions to endodontics and root canal therapy. At Zumbrota Veterinary Clinic, digital dental x-rays are provided free-of-charge with each dental procedure.
Microchipping
Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families. We offer the most widely used microchip products to increase the chances of a safe recovery.
