Illness Treatment

Parasites Treatment and Control
Calcium supplementation should NOT be started unless prescribed by a veterinarian until after whelping. Calcium supplementation prior to whelping can be associated with increased dystocia, eclampsia, and problems with the litter. Other medications should be given only on the advice of a veterinarian. Heartguard Plus (a heartworm preventative) and Frontline (flea control) should be continued. If there are any concerns about any long term medication, discuss this with the veterinarian prior to breeding.
Pain Management
Aleigh started at ECVH in 2016 as a Veterinary Assistant while finishing her AAS degree in Veterinary Technology. She is now a Registered Veterinary Technician and Office Manager at ECVH. Aleigh has now returned to school to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Technology with a focus in Practice Management. Her favorite parts of Vet Med are Anesthesia/Pain Management and specialized patient care.

Current uses include arthritis, tendon and ligament injuries, and muscle injuries. Future uses may include treatment of kidney, liver, heart, and immune mediated diseases.

Arthritis Treatment
We are proud to offer Vet-Stem Cell therapy to our patients. This is a great, alternative/conjunctive therapy option for our patients on long-term pain medications for conditions like osteoarthritis and ligament injury!
Diabetes Treatment
Other issues with pregnancy include exacerbation of underlying disease such as heart disease, diabetes mellitus, pregnancy toxemia, and kidney disease or infection. Because of the significant physiologic changes that occur in a pregnant dog, it is extremely important for the dog to be healthy PRIOR to breeding. Any underlying diseases need to be evaluated and treated. The implications for pregnancy with any underlying disease needs to be discussed to determine if the dog should be bred or not.
Thyroid Disease Treatment
Preanesthetic procedures including electrocardiograms, complete blood counts, comprehensive chemistries, thyroid testing, urinalysis, or I.V. fluids will be recommended depending on the age, breed, and history of your pet. This will be explained at drop off for the surgical procedure.
Heart Disease Treatment
All pets who undergo anesthesia at our hospital will have a comprehensive blood panel and ECG performed, an IV catheter placed, the full attention of a Registered Veterinary Technician for the entire procedure, and of course, Dr. Bayliff as their surgeon. We strive to educate our clients on the safest anesthesia practices while treating their pet’s surgical needs. Anesthesia and surgery are intimidating words, but they do not have to be scary scenarios!
