Maintaining oral health includes good home care and regular visits to our office for preventive care, which includes oral examinations and cleanings.

Teeth Cleaning
The technical term for dental cleaning is oral prophylaxis. Dental cleanings are recommended every six months, along with your comprehensive evaluations. We use a state-of-the-art ultrasonic system to loosen tartar, then use hand tools to remove any smaller deposits left behind. After your teeth are cleaned, we polish them—this creates a smooth surface that makes it more difficult for new tartar deposits to form.
Fluoride Treatment
We encourage parents to accompany their child during their visit. This gives you an opportunity to see us working with your child and allows us to discuss dental findings and treatment needs directly with you. A thorough head and neck examination and evaluation of the teeth and gums are performed. Radiographs (x-rays) are taken only if necessary. If no treatment is needed, the teeth will be cleaned and a fluoride treatment will be provided.

Fillings
After we remove areas of decay, composite fillings are used to repair teeth with cavities. Unlike traditional amalgam fillings, composite fillings are made with a tooth-colored material to blend in perfectly with the rest of your smile.
Veneers
Dental veneers can be used to correct a number of different cosmetic imperfections, including gaps, uneven teeth, minor misalignments, stains, and chips. A thin layer of enamel is removed, then veneers are bonded to the tooth surface to cover over the front of the tooth.
Crowns
Our practice offers state-of-the-art technology from glidewell.io to provide dental crowns and other restorations in a single appointment at our office. Traditionally, dental crowns required two visits to the dentist with a few weeks’ wait in between while your restoration was being fabricated by a dental laboratory. Same-visit crowns streamline the process, allowing us to prepare your tooth, fabricate your crown, and bond it in place all in a few hours.
Bridges
Dental bridges replace missing teeth by using adjacent teeth to hold a restoration in place. The most common type of dental bridge involves placing crowns on the teeth on either side of the gap; these teeth are known as abutments, while the restorations that are replacing the missing teeth are called pontics.
Dental Bonding
Cosmetic bonding is an affordable way to improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped, cracked, or stained. A tooth-colored composite material is applied to the surface of the tooth, then shaped with exacting detail for a natural look.

Yes, during a root canal you will be awake, but we use local anesthetic injections to ensure that you feel no pain during the treatment. If needed, we can provide nitrous oxide or conscious oral sedation to help you relax.

If you need deep cleaning—a term sometimes used to describe scaling and root planing—you will be given local anesthetic injections to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. If you have anxiety about your treatment, we have mild forms of sedation that can help you relax while we work.

Dr. Mark Roisman has been practicing general and cosmetic dentistry in his Westport, CT office since 1995. After graduating McGill University in Montreal with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1982, Dr. Roisman went on to study dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia. He received his DMD degree from Penn in 1986, and followed up his training with a yearlong General Practice Residency in Queens, New York. From 1987 through 1995, Dr. Roisman was in private practice in Queens and Brooklyn, NY until he established his Westport practice in March of 1995.
