There were many people trying to adopt on the day that we were there and I was shocked at how calm and kind the staff was despite the need and hurry up attitude of the visitors. Great cats, they really care about them, and with all the cats out in the open together, this is a really tightly ran ship! I read a bunch of unhappy reviews on Google about how the staff wouldn't allow a cat to be adopted to certain families, but hey, that is their job- to make that call. The gal REALLY cared and for good reason. Cats aren't like other things that are bought; the selection process should ensure they aren't treated like shopping for a pillow. If you really want a cat, come back in a few times like I did and prove it.

I went in there a few years back to hand them a donation check from my pet service company and had my 13 year old daughter with me. My daughter wanted to go into the kitten area to see if there were any new babies and the volunteer was very curt and told us that we weren't allowed. How ridiculous is that? You don't treat your donors badly! From now on I donate to DMK Rehoming

I was shocked at the negative review. It is as far from the truth, as can be. I have volunteered at Almost Home for over 2.5 years, 1 day a week, sometimes 2 days a week.

The volunteers are super dedicated to the organization, and many have been there a lot longer than I have. They give freely of their time and work very hard to insure the success of the cat rescue. Our reward is knowing that we are doing everything we can to give the kittens and cats a chance to find there forever home.

The amount of effort that goes into creating an extremely clean, safe, and low stress cage free environment - is nothing short of amazing. Walls and furniture are wiped down and floors are mopped daily. Large litter boxes are scooped numerous times every day to insure they remain as fresh and clean as possible. Complete litter box changes are also done on a regular basis and boxes are deep cleaned weekly. The cats are given lots of love and attention.

Any cats that are ill, are kept in an isolation area separate from all of the other cats, and treated until they are well enough to rejoin the general population. That is the only time that a cat may be in a cage - and the cage is more suited for a large dog. Almost Home is a no kill shelter and I have seen them put out huge cash outlays to get the proper medical care that is required. If you do see a cat that looks thin or not as perky as the others - there are some cats that came from environments that were not kind to them. There are cats that Almost Home takes in, that would surly be put down by other animal shelters.

Yes, potential 'parents' wanting to adopt are vetted a little more than you may have seen at other organizations, but that is because the Director has the cats best interest at heart. Rarely do they have an adoption that does not work out. I'd venture to say that other facilities can only dream of the success rate that Almost Home has in matching cat/parents together for a lifetime relationship.

The cats are fed canned food 2 times a day, and have plenty of a high quality nutrition grade dry food that is always available to the cats. Special Diets are also provided to those cats with special nutritional needs.

Funding is Private, and like all places that love animals, they find a way to make sure the cats do not lack anything due to funding. Like any non-profit, more donations are always needed so that they can continue this level of care and can help even more cats.

If you are looking to adopt a kitten, young adult cat, or older cat - Please check out the Almost Home Adoption facility. Almost all the cats are very social and easy to fall in love with. As you can tell, I believe in the organization and I think that one visit would make you believe too. Thank You for your time.

This is a fantastic place to adopt a cat! The cats run and play and enjoy the cage-free environment. They even have a fully enclosed patio where the cats can safely enjoy the sun and fresh air.

Over the past two years, I adopted three cats from this organization, so I have been through their adoption process. I am compelled to reply to chocolatbarz, another poster on this site. Unlike chocolatbarz, I interpreted the interview questions in a positive light. Of course they should ask these questions! The place is a rescue center and has many cats who were abandoned, lost, or left without a caregiver when the previous owner passed away without a plan for their cat. The people doing adoptions there have a tremendous responsibility in placing these animals in responsible and loving homes.

I'm also offended by the chocolatbarz' comment that (you'd think you were receiving a pure-bred show cat for how rigorous the process is). REALLY? So the lives of the cats who aren't pure-bred show cats don't matter as much? Shame on you! I feel sorry for any animal who is ever in your alleged care. It is obvious to me, and it will be obvious to others reading your review, that you are bearing a grudge for some reason.

I happily paid the adoption fees and then donated on top of that! The money I gave them goes toward medical care, food and supplies. These people are doing everything they can to give these homeless and abandoned little sweeties a second chance at a happy life in a responsible, loving, forever home. Almost Home Adoptions is a fantastic place for the kitties and for anyone wishing to adopt or visit with the kitties. Check it out and decide for yourself!

This shelter is a sad place to...

This shelter is a sad place to visit! Their staff is volunteer based (which is typical of a shelter with no funding), but they clearly do not care for the animals properly. It is also clear that the animals are in pretty bad shape.

They are fed bottom-level food, and the animals appear to be suffering. Many are thin, looking sickly and under-fed. The litter smells terrible (foul smelling poo means the food is high in grain content and very cheap - leading to a bad foundation for lifelong health). In addition, all adult cats are open-air exposed to one another -- which is a breeding ground for disease. They have a cage-free principle, which means a sick cat can walk all around, infecting others.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN HERE!

If you enter looking to adopt a cat, you are either a) ambushed and lead around the building, while being extensively interviewed or b) ignored until you ask for help. The application process is over-done for a shelter in this poor of condition - you'd expect that you are receiving a pure-bred show cat for how rigorous the process is. You are questioned about your intentions, what will be done with the cat when you can no longer care for it, and the conditions of your home and plans for raising the animal. Also, the interviewers seem to pass judgement based on their personal impressions of you, rather than concrete facts you give them. They are cold and impersonal, the blonde older woman appears to have spite for everyone walking through the door. Not the kind of place I'd support by leaving with one of their kitties.

No need to encourage the poor customer service and lack of care by donating over a hundred dollars to get a mangy cat.I could get a better deal, better service, and a healthier cat off the street.
