Infectious Diseases
A corneal transplant is done using a human donor cornea. Before a cornea is released for transplant, tests are done for viruses that cause hepatitis, AIDS and other potentially infectious diseases. The cornea is also checked for clarity.
Immunizations
Submit proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test within 3-5 days of arrival and self-quarantine until the office visit. Candidates must also pass our standard screening questions.

Macular Degeneration
The mission of this residency program at Mid-Atlantic Cornea is to provide the entry level optometrist with specialized training and mentorship which would allow the resident to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage complicated anterior segment disease. The resident will also have exposure to extensive anterior and posterior segment disease including glaucoma, macular degeneration, and retinal tears and detachments. The resident will manage cases that have significant ocular manifestations of systemic diseases such as Lupus, Fabry’s disease, and Trisomy 21. The resident will become proficient at fitting and evaluating specialty contact lenses, as well as troubleshooting complications which arise from these lenses. The program will encourage the resident to become academically and clinically knowledgeable in advanced anterior segment disease and contact lens fitting, and encourage him/her to share this knowledge as an educator of his/her peers. This fifty-two week experience will allow the resident to gain the skills necessary to distinguish him/herself competitively for any optometry health care job in the marketplace upon graduation, especially within the niche of specialty contact lens fitting. The program will allow for a supportive environment with appropriate supervision, such that the resident can be comfortable and efficient in a challenging clinical setting.

Cataracts
A cataract is an opacity that clouds the natural lens inside the eye. Normally the path of light to the retina (where the light sensors are) is as clear as possible. When proteins that make up the lens clump together, the resulting cataract blocks some of the light, making vision blurry or hazy.
Cataract Surgery
As a corneal specialist, Dr. Pramanik offers all methods of corneal transplantation (PKP/ DLEK / DALK / DMEK / DSEK / and keratoprosthesis), complex cataract surgery by referral, refractive surgery, ocular tumor surgery, and reconstruction of the front portion of the eye.
Eye Exam
A visit to the optometrist will generally include a basic eye examination. Optometrists examine the eyes to detect both vision and eye health problems. Some eye conditions can be treated with prescription medications, vision therapy sessions, and corrective eyewear. Many progressive eye conditions will eventually need to be treated with eye surgery. In such cases, an optometrist will provide a referral to an eye surgeon and help manage their patient's pre- and postoperative care.

Lesions
Pterygos, “little wing”) is a wing-shaped, vascular, fleshy growth that originates on the conjunctiva and that can spread to the corneal limbus and beyond. Pterygia are relatively common in the general population and typically follow an indolent course, with changes in appearance but little effect on vision and the eye itself. Because early pterygia are usually asymptomatic, there has been little research on their natural history and treatment, and most ophthalmologists commonly consider them an insignificant problem until the lesions encroach on the visual axis.
