Dental Examination

Fluoride Treatment
For children 2 and older, our New Patient visit includes an orientation to the office, soft tissue examination, scaling and polishing, necessary x-rays, fluoride treatment, oral hygiene instruction, dental development evaluation, dietary and nutritional counseling, and patient/parent education. We encourage mom and dad to be present with their child during their entire visit. We teach you and your child how to best care for their teeth, advice on eating habits and answer any specific questions you may have. We explain how cavities are caused, what we can do to prevent them and how your children can help fight gum and tooth disease by brushing properly. All information is provided in an age appropriate manner to help nurture and encourage your child. We pack a lot into this first visit!
Dental Sealants
Sealants protect the grooved and pitted surfaces of the teeth, especially the chewing surfaces of back teeth where most cavities in children are found. Made of tooth colored plastic, sealants are applied to the teeth to help keep them cavity-free. The application of a sealant is quick and comfortable. It takes only one visit. The tooth is first cleaned. It is then conditioned and dried. The sealant is then flowed onto the grooves of the tooth and hardened with a special light. Your child will be able to eat right after the appointment.
Space Maintainers
Space maintainers are appliances made of metal or plastic that are custom fit to your child’s mouth. They are small and unobtrusive in appearance. Most children easily adjust to them after the first few days. Space maintainers hold open the empty space left by a lost tooth. They steady the remaining teeth, preventing movement until the permanent tooth takes its natural position in the jaw.

Crowns
Crowns are used in cases where a cavity has affected so much tooth structure that filling material cannot be used to repair the tooth. We offer several types of crowns depending on the location of the cavity. For the anterior teeth, we offer white composite or Zirconia crowns. For the posterior teeth we offer stainless steel crowns with or without a composite facing and also zirconia crowns. We will let our parents know which is ideal for our patients.
Restorative Dentistry
In all cases our goal is to keep our patients comfortable. We will make sure your mouth is thoroughly numb using topical anesthesia and local anesthesia.

Pulpotomy
Root Canal Treatment
A pulpectomy is necessary when the nerve (pulp) of the tooth is dead or abscessed. The entire infected pulp is removed from the roots of the tooth and medication is placed in the root canals.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Tooth Extractions
We perform both baby tooth extractions and extractions of permanent teeth when needed. This includes the need for extractions prior to or during orthodontic treatment.

Orthodontics
Interceptive orthodontics is the first phase of orthodontics. We provide early orthodontic treatment to reduce or eliminate the need for more in-depth and expensive orthodontic care in the future. This is the first step to a healthy, brighter smile!
Invisalign Orthodontics
Dr. Kenneth M. Hrechka specializes in the comprehensive orthodontic care of children and adults. Dr. Hrechka is a graduate of the University of Maryland Dental School and is a Board Certified Orthodontist. Dr Hrechka is a certified Invisalign Premier Provider. He has been practicing in our Springfield office for over twenty years. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, and a former president of the Maryland State Society of Orthodontists. He has been a three-term delegate to the American Association of Orthodontists. Currently he serves as a councilor for the Council on Orthodontic Practice for the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Hrechka is also a current counsellor for the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontists.
Braces
Laser gently corrects an uneven or “gummy smile”. It can be used in cases of gingival hyperplasia often seen with patients in braces.
