Dr. Zarnegar received his Medical Doctor degree from St. Louis University, where he also completed his residency in ophthalmology. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Santa Clara University, and pursued post-graduate studies in biology at San Jose State and Stanford universities. Dr. Zarnegar serves as an adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology at Touro University College of Medicine where he teaches medical students. He also directs the ophthalmology training program for family practice residents at Dignity Health's Marian Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Nelson received his undergraduate B.S. in Vision Science in 1988 and Doctor of Optometry (OD) in 1990 from Pacific University. He holds a California Therapeutic License with Glaucoma Certification and an Oregon Advanced Therapeutics with Injections License.
Ophthalmology
Dr. Daniel Agarwal is a board-certified ophthalmologist with a specialization in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous. He received his Bachelor of Science in cell and molecular biology from Duke University, where he graduated magna cum laude with Phi Beta Kappa and Graduation with Distinction honors. He earned his Medical Degree from Weill Cornell Medical College, graduating with Honors in Research. Dr. Agarwal went on to complete his internship at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar, CA and residency in ophthalmology at the University of Arizona. Thereafter, he completed a fellowship in medical retina and uveitis at the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute and a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and medical diseases of the retina at Yale University.

A published author on the topic of macular degeneration and diseases of the retina, Dr. Dan Shepard is also specially trained in the medical and surgical treatment of eye trauma and the eye’s vitreous body.
Laser Eye Surgery
PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) used to be the most common laser vision correction procedure. LASIK has since surpassed PRK due to its ability to correct more severe visual acuity with less recovery time and with decreased risks of infection, haze, and scarring.
Cataracts
Not everyone with cataracts needs surgery. However, when the vision becomes cloudy enough to affect daily activities, then surgery can help restore clear vision. Modern surgery to remove the cloudy lens is usually very quick, low-risk and highly effective.
Cataract Surgery
A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens of the eye that typically develops after the age of 50 but can occur at any age. As the natural lens turns cloudy, the vision typically changes. At first, the cataract may simply change the strength of the glasses. Later, even new glasses may not improve the vision much. When a cataract reaches the stage where it limits the vision, and an individual would like better vision, then cataract surgery is considered. Fortunately, modern-day cataract surgery is generally (typically) very successful at improving the vision and is among the most common surgeries performed in this country today.

Dr. Agarwal is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Vit Buckle Society, and the American Society of Retina Specialists. Dr. Agarwal has been involved in numerous research projects including vitreous disorders, diabetic retinopathy, fluorescein angiography, panretinal photocoagulation, endophthalmitis, corneal keloids, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and glaucomatous optic neuropathy. He has received grants from the American Federation on Aging, Cleveland Clinic, and Yale University to conduct and present his research. Dr. Agarwal has several peer reviewed publications and has presented at many national and international conferences.

Botox
BOTOX injections are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world. BOTOX or botulinum type A is a medication used to relax the muscles of the face that create wrinkles. The injection causes a temporary paralysis of the muscle, and the effect wears off after several months.
Brow Lift
Other treatments for wrinkles, or rhytids as your doctor may call them, include surgeries such as blepharoplasty or brow lift to remove some of the loose skin around the eyes. BOTOX injections are effective especially for wrinkles around the eyelid and forehead. Also, chemical peels can help tighten and rejuvenate the skin.
Eyelid Surgery
If eyelid drooping and sagging are making you look older than you feel, you may want to consider eyelid surgery called blepharoplasty. This outpatient surgery can lift the upper eyelids and remove the bags under the eyes. A refreshed, rejuvenated and wider field of view is the result.
Rhinoplasty
Sometimes the filler can be used on the top of the nose to even out the nasal bridge as non-surgical rhinoplasty. Fillers can be used to help with wrinkles and lines around the eyes and forehead.
Plastic Surgery
Specializing in medical and surgical treatments of eye disease, Dr. Randall Goodman joined Shepard Eye Center in 2005. In addition to his focus on performing state-of-the-art cataract, laser, glaucoma, refractive and eyelid plastic surgery, he is the author of an ophthalmology textbook and numerous journal articles, book chapters and scientific abstracts.
Blepharoplasty
The upper eyelid blepharoplasty removes extra eyelid skin in a 20-30 minute outpatient surgery. Sutures are left in place for a week and the eyelids may have some swelling or bruising for a few days. Sometimes insurance will cover the cost of the surgery if the heavy eyelid is obstructing the upper vision.
Cosmetic Surgery
Patients who are bothered by the eyelid skin folds or bags and choose to have blepharoplasty are some of the happiest patients who have cosmetic surgery. The risks of surgery are low and the results are obvious.
