Divorce
During these three-way conversations (both spouses and the mediator), the mediator will guide the couple through the divorce issues that must be decided upon in order to meet the requirements of Missouri divorce law. If the couple gets “off track,” the mediator can guide them back to a more positive conversation.
Child Support
In the Kitchen Table model, the attorney will guide the client through the decisions that must be made by the couple in order to meet the requirements of Missouri law. The spouse represented by an attorney—usually the Petitioner—will then make sure that both spouses discuss all the required divorce issues. Decisions include division of property and debt and a decision of whether either spouse will receive maintenance (maintenance can be waived by one or both spouses). If there are children of the marriage, then the couple must also make decisions about a parenting schedule (“physical custody”), decision-making authority (“legal custody”), and providing for the children’s financial needs (“child support”).

Paternity
Mediation can be used not only in divorces but also for Legal Separation, Paternity matters, Motions to Modify (child support, custody, or maintenance), or any other family law matter.

Legal Separation
When all the legal documents have been signed, the attorney acting for the Petitioner spouse will file the documents in court. After a short period of time, the Petitioner’s attorney will return to court to finalize the matter and get the judge to sign a Judgment. The type of judgment depends on the type of matter (Judge of Dissolution of Marriage, Judgment of Legal Separation, Judgment of Modification, Judgment of Paternity, etc.).

Land Use and Zoning
She is a graduate of the St. Louis University School of Law. A native St. Louisan, she attended high school at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in St. Charles. She currently lives in Brentwood, where she served a three-year term on the Planning and Zoning Committee. A former educator, she has taught school both locally and in Nicaragua.

Tax Law
A financial professional would be hired by both spouses jointly and does not represent either spouse. The financial consultant therefore plays a neutral role. The couple can work with the financial consultant to prepare financial statements, create future budgets, project after-tax cash flow of each spouse after the divorce, and discuss tax issues. The financial professional cannot provide individual services to either spouse after the divorce. His or her role is limited to assisting the couple during the collaborative divorce process only.
