Taj Mapaw

I took my 3 dogs there for a good while but then I started to realize that they were getting out later and later. I would be the first one there the morning of their appointment to be groomed, yet it was always 5to 6 in the evening before they would call to say they were ready. The last time I had them there I called at noon, they had been there since 8am. Chris finally got there he called me as I had asked for him to do and he basically told me that if I didn't like the way he ran his business that I didn't need to come back. Oh please trust me...I will never darken the doors of that place again!! My poor babies were caged up from 8am until who knows whatever time, no water nothing until I was called and told to come and pick them up!!!

Unfortunately I had to board my dog there overnight for an emergency. The entrance is filthy, smells of urine and the owner unfriendly. I was told it was $22 to board overnight, and if I picked up after 11AM the following morning, the next day would be a prorated amount. I dropped off at 530PM and picked up at 3PM the following day - less than 24 hours in their facility and was charged $44 for two whole days (nothing was prorated).



I attempted to speak with the owner (Chris - who I see is posting his own 5 star reviews below! ) by phone, and was interrupted frequently until he then hung up on me. When I called back and said how poor his customer service was and that he was taking advantage of his customers, his response was "Well, I don't care." And clearly he does not. I will never return and I advise to avoid this facility.

I am not an employee of Taj, never have been. My husband and I recently relocated to VA from Michigan. Our two dogs (chocolate lab and pitbull shepherd) were daycare pros, having spent nearly 6 years 2-3 times in daycare per week plus a handful of multi-day overnighters per year at our local Michigan daycare/boarding (Unleashed & Lovin' It in Jackson, MI....HIGHLY recommended if you live in the area).



Our dogs never had problems in daycare or boarding and our old place was like a second home to them, so I was very concerned about quality in Roanoke. We have taken them now to two places (one in Salem, and Taj). Even though the Salem place is much closer to home and the staff seemed fine, we opted to continue our daycare and overnights at Taj Mapaw. The staff always seem very nice, professional, and I have had no issues with the owner. He seems very nice. My dogs are always excited to go there and have not had any problems in the few months we have been attending (about once per week).



I don't expect the place to be spit-shined and perfect. I do expect my dogs to be safe, well-cared for, housed and fed appropriately when boarding, and really, really tired when they come home. I have not been disappointed.

Rude. Rude. Rude. Dog Lovers Beware!! My family and I went on vacation and left our two dogs there for a Friday to Sunday stay. When I dropped them off the lady that took them back seemed very uninterested in hearing my requests since our dogs have special needs. I also saw a lady grab a puppy by it's neck and the puppy was whining! When we arrived to pick them up we were greeted by a very RUDE man. He proceeded to tell us what he thought our dogs needed and basically trashed talked us for about ten minutes. Has he ever heard of accommodating????!!! He said our dogs needed to be "dogs again"!!!! Who the heck does he think he is? He only knew our dogs for one day!!! And our dogs have special needs especially since my dog came from a very abused environment from his previous owner. The owner (man) gave us our dogs belongings back and admitted to NOT even using any of the toys that the dogs love. He could care less. Our dogs love those toys and that was a big request of mine for them to have those. Their prescribed food had barely been touched and our dogs were starving and dying of thirst when they got home. This business should be shut down. NEVER AGAIN will our dogs go there and I HIGHLY recommend that you never step foot in that place. PS: It doesn't even deserve the one star that I am required to select on here.....

Its the greatest place on earth. Come by and see for yourself!!! Our doors are always open.

I took my dogs here to be boarded. They called to let me know they had lost one of my dogs. We didn't find her for over 48 hours. They never called me to even see if we found her. I would not recommend this kennel.
