Ophthalmology
John J. Ruffini, M.D. is board certified in ophthalmology. He specializes in cornea and provides comprehensive ophthalmologic services. After graduating from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, Dr. Ruffini received his doctor of medicine degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He then performed his internship at Bryn Mawr Hospital and went on to complete his residency in Ophthalmology at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Ruffini completed his cornea fellowship at the University of Rochester School of Medicine in New York.
Macular Degeneration
We offer the latest in ophthalmic laser photocoagulation to treat many forms of retinal disorders. We are also using some new and exciting drugs for the treatment of wet macular degeneration. Many Retinal disorders are treated in our office as an outpatient process, in a comfortable and efficient manner.
Laser Eye Surgery
LASIK is the most common and most popular form of refractive laser eye surgery. LASIK is an outpatient procedure used to correct myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. With LASIK, an ophthalmologist uses a microsurgical instrument and a laser to reshape the cornea. The cornea is the clear outer structure of the eye. Recently, advances have allowed the procedure to be entirely done with a laser alone. The laser treatment is done in an extremely precise fashion to either flatten the surface of a myopic eye, steepen the surface of a hyperopic eye, or smooth out the surface of an astigmatic eye.
Cataracts
A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye. Normally, the human lens is clear and transparent. It focuses images onto the back part of the eye, called the retina. As a lens ages, it becomes blurry. The most common cataract symptoms are blurry vision, glare when driving or reading, more light needed to read, fading or dullness to colors, ghosting or doubling of your vision in one eye and the need to change your glasses more frequently because your prescription keeps changing.

Eye Exam
In all of my years of visiting eye doctors, I have never been as pleased as I am with this practice. I had a routine eye examination a few weeks ago which included a contact lens evaluation. The exam was comprehensive and the doctor was knowledgeable and friendly. At the conclusion of the exam, I asked the doctor for a prescription for both eye glasses and contacts. He wrote both prescriptions and did not try and hard sell me on purchasing glasses or contact lenses from his office. That was a pleasant surprise especially since the office features a separate section that is devoted to glasses.
