Rude and disrespectful owners

On October 28th, 2014 my mother, my son, and I decided to go to the shoe factory located on 7000 Castor Ave in Philadelphia, PA. Before entering the store I told my mother I wanted to keep my bag in the car and just grab my wallet and keys, because the last time I was there the owner made a huge scene in front of everyone telling me that I can't have my bag with me. Meanwhile, there were others in the store with bigger bags and backpacks, but I guess she picks and chooses whose bags she wants to keep or not. So I left my bag in the car and we entered the store. I was helping my mom pick out some comfortable shoes, while she was trying some on I went towards the back where there are racks of shoes. Usually they'll have the shoes where there's only a few pairs left back there. So I found a pair that I thought my mom would like, that's when the owner started walking towards me and yelled "I told you no one is allowed back at the racks." I put the box of shoes back on the rack and said "oh I didn't know, I'm sorry" and started to walk away from the racks. That's when she says "anyone with any type of common sense would know not to jump over boxes to get to the racks" with a rude and condescending voice. I replied and said "I didn't jump over anything, there's a pathway leading straight to the racks, so I didn't think I couldn't be back there. Plus there's boxes everywhere and you guys should have a sign up saying so." That's when she continued to yell saying they're stocking shoes there and I shouldn't have walked back there if I had used my brain. At this point I felt so disrespected and told her she's being rude to me and this is the second time she yells at me in the store. She replied "you're the rude one." I wasn't going to have her keep yelling at me so I started to walk towards my mother and told her "lets just go." Me and my mother were walking towards the front, when the lady in the front behind the register started yelling at me (which I believe is her daughter) and said "if you want to act like an animal, then leave." I said "you don't have to yell nor kick us out because we're leaving anyways." That's when she proceeded to say "then leave! Then leave!" "If you want to raise your child like an animal, you can, but not in the store where we have customers" I asked her to please stop being rude and yelling at us when we did nothing wrong to them. She continued to yell "go, just go" while raising her arms and screaming, then pointed at my mother and yelled "you raised an animal!" At this point I was so shaken up at the fact that they were just kicking us out for no reason and yelled at my mother for no reason. My mother had nothing to do with it, nor did my 10 month old son. My mother doesn't speak English so she kept quiet as the woman was yelling at her and walked towards me. As we were walking out the door she continued to say "go, go" and mumbled "go back to your country." How does a person respond to that? I was literally shaking and choked up when we walked back to the car. I was in shock and didn't know what to do. My mother had no idea what went wrong since she doesn't understand English. Imagine having to explain to your mother, the nasty comments they were saying to us. I will never go back to this place again. I'm hoping people would see this and wont support their business.

Hello, My name is Nicole Cox.

I am writing this letter in hope to inform my community of the discrimination that is taking place toward customers at this business. Today on 11/5/13 at around 12:15 my friend, sister and I entered a shoe store name “ The Shoe Factory located on7000 Castor Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19149, as we entered the store we the woman behind the register gave us a nasty stare, i ignored the negativity I felt, and proceeded to look at shoes. Picking up a shoe on display in the window to show my sister the woman burst out yelling “ don’t touch the shoes on display, there a sign right there. I then saw the huge card board sign hanging written in black marker it said “Please do not touch shoes on display “ I immediately apologized and put the shoes down. Because of the tone in her voice and level of disrespect everyone in the store begin to stare. So we are standing there, the entire store is in silence. My sister makes a joke to me “ ha ha your always getting in trouble” We laugh and i say to her “ your are right I am not touching anything, I am gonna stay focused “ at that point the woman behind the counter yell out you can leave. Bewildered I respond “ why are you yelling at me and why are you so hostile. She continued to yell telling me to leave the store. My sister then speaks up and say “ you are rude! you are yelling at us as if we did something wrong to you. Who is the owner, the woman behind the counter says I am. At this point another woman stands up and is watching (I later find out that she is the mother and they are the owners) she never utters a word. Leaving the store, I felt totally defeated. I called the police because I did not know what else to do! As i was making my report the mother comes out yelling telling me there is nothing the police can do. In tears I continue talking to the police. You see i can not understand what I have done to deserve this treatment: Is it because of the color of my skin? But lets rewind to 2mths ago my friend and I entered the store. the same woman behind the counter yelled and said no large bags allowed in store. My friend I were shaken by he rude and loud disposition. We said, ok no problem and took our pocket books to the car. Re-entering the store we were met with the woman behind the counter yelling on the phone at her kids father. How do I know this it was so in your face there was no escaping. My friend quickly found what she wanted and made her way to the cashier. As we waited in line to be checked out, we were met with unimaginable ignorance she proceeded to curse her child's father out about not wanting him to have her son, her mother began to curse her out saying that he was the father and deserve to spend time with the child, the cashier yelled and disrespected the mother in way that no one would speak in public. Even though I was disgusted I understand people are human so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I said to myself “okay she is having a bad day thats why she yelled at us about our pocketbooks". I even spoke kind words to her as I could see she was stressed. But a pond my next visit I realize that is not true. This women is filled with an venom i cannot explain her ignorance is at level of no return I know i am not the only one that has experienced her hate. My family has patronized this store for years. As child my when my sisters and i visited my grandmother on holidays she would pile us up in the car and we would go to the shoe factory that had cheap/cute shoes she could afford in abundance. This store must have changed management/owner because the experience has always been pleasant. I feel so horrible about the experience. My friend, my sister and i did not deserve that treatment no one should be bullied in a shoe store. Please help me expose this business.
