Given the option, I wouldn't even rate this practice a 1-star. My 7-year-old's experience with Dr. Goltra was one of the most horrific experiences either of us have ever had. To say Dr. Goltra's bedside manner is cold and forceful is an understatement. The girls performing the procedure for the first half were wonderful; gentle, kind, and comforting. Dr. Goltra stepped in to finish the last half of the procedure and was immediately frustrated, rushed, forceful, demeaning, and even cruel. Never in my life have I felt more appalled, out of control, and helpless to my child. She yelled at him to stop crying or she would make me leave the room. My biggest regret was not scooping my child up off the chair that very instant and walking out. She continued to criticize him for his fear of the dentist and for crying because of that fear, even degrading him with the comment that she has had children in the office who are much younger than him that handled this procedure better than he was. Most dental practitioners wouldn't force work on a young patient in the first place, at least not without proper arm-restraining equipment, much less require the parent to physically lay on top of their child while they shoved and ripped out metal tools in the child's mouth. Once it was finally over, Dr. Goltra didn't so much as utter a word of encouragement to my son nor myself, but just walked out of the room and disappeared. One of the assistants who was performing the procedure earlier was kind enough to ask me, "Are you OK, Mom?" because it was obviously a deeply troubling experience to witness, let alone endure with your child. Needless to say my child will never step foot in the doors of this incredibly old-school, even barbaric dental practice again. I found it easy to justify spending almost double to take my child to an out-of-network pediatric dentist just to ensure he never had to experience someone as awful as that again!
