Phase Three: Final Impressions and Restoration With your mouth completely healed and prepared for your restorative phase, the first step is to take final impressions. These will be used to design your final porcelain crown or bridge, which can either be attached by Dr. Maltz or your restorative dentist. Depending on your preferences and budget, you have a few options you can choose to complete the restorative phase of your treatment, which will be discussed during your consultation. Once your final restoration is attached, you can treat it like a real tooth and your smile will be complete, functional and attractive once again!
Bridges
It’s important that you replace your missing teeth and you have multiple options for doing so. By leaving gaps in your smile, the resulting bone loss can affect the position and strength of surrounding teeth. Your tooth replacement options vary in terms of function and health benefits. The most economical choice is a removable partial denture, which can replace the look of a tooth but can be uncomfortable and loose-fitting over time. A dental bridge is more stable and life-like but requires healthy adjacent teeth to be shaved down to support the fixture.

Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
Gingivectomy Gingivectomy surgically removes any gum tissue that has been damaged by gum disease. Completed for moderate cases of periodontal disease, a gingivectomy treats unhealthy gums and eliminates the deep pockets between teeth so the jawbone does not become damaged.
Deep Cleaning
Periodontal maintenance Once gum disease has been comprehensively treated, periodontal maintenance is recommended to ensure it does not return. This procedure is completed every 3-4 months and involves a deep cleaning of the teeth at and below the gum line to remove bacteria and plaque accumulation.

Dentures
Most patients are aware that if they have many or all missing teeth, dentures have been the default tooth replacement option. But dentures have limitations that you may already be experiencing. They can become loose and slip when you eat or talk, and you might not be able to comfortably chew the foods you like, or bite them at all. Osseous Surgery
Osseous surgery Osseous surgery is the most comprehensive treatment for advanced gum disease. It involves removing the diseased gum tissue and repairs the damaged bone to restore support to the teeth. This surgery also removes the bacteria and calculus trapped in the deep pockets between the teeth.
Tooth Extractions
Phase Two: Guided Dental Implant Surgery Your implant placement procedure is generally completed after you’ve received any necessary preparatory treatments, including gum disease therapy, tooth extractions, and bone grafting and allowed to heal. Depending on your case, Dr. Maltz may be able to remove remaining teeth and place your dental implants in a single appointment. However, he provides treatment based on your unique circumstance and designs a plan that best reflects your oral health needs.
Ridge Augmentation
Significant bone loss along the jaw ridge because of tooth loss, denture wear, or gum disease, makes the bone too thin and weak to support dental implants. Ridge augmentation rebuilds the natural density and contours of this ridge. In cases of tooth extraction, ridge preservation fills the empty tooth socket with bone graft material.
Bone Grafting
Missing teeth can have a profound effect on your appearance and confidence, but more concerning is the effect it has on your oral structures. Without teeth, your jawbone will resorb, a continuous process whereby bone loses density and shrinks away. A single missing tooth can mean other teeth shift out of place, but if you’ve lost most or all your teeth, this process can have damaging cosmetic and functional results, giving you an aged or “sunken in” facial appearance. General Dentistry
Dr. Michael Maltz was born and raised in New Jersey. He attended Yeshiva University in New York City and scored in the top half percent on his dental boards and was accepted to numerous Ivy League programs including Harvard, University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University. He attended University of Pennsylvania and UMDNJ, graduating with honors. At UMDNJ, he was recognized with the Outstanding Achievement Award in Periodontics. After completing dental school, he did a one year residency in general dentistry at Columbia University in NYC. He then continued his training at University of Maryland and Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland. Upon completion of his specialty training, he entered into a partnership with, now retired, Dr. Laurence Gordon in his private practice in New City, NY. Dr.Maltz has been practicing periodontics and implant dentistry for almost 30 years and has placed over 20,000 dental implants. He has lectured nationally on digital implantology and currently has offices in New City, Middletown and Poughkeepsie, New York. He is a happily married father of five and grandfather of two. Dr. Maltz is an avid sports fan who enjoys fitness and spending time with his family.
