Joseph P. Aiena has over 14 years of experience in intellectual property law, including patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, unfair competition and other related areas. His primary focus is with patent matters in prosecution, opinions, litigation and transactions. He has experience with numerous and diverse areas of technology including chemicals and materials, mechanical devices, semiconductors, semiconductor processing equipment, integrated circuits, superconductors, telecommunications and wireless equipment, business methods, water treatment, pharmaceuticals, biomedical devices, printed circuit boards, and sporting equipment. His patent experience includes drafting and filing of original applications, re-examinations and reissues. He has rendered opinions on numerous patents for small and large companies to advise on the scope of intellectual property rights for the client and that of third parties. Mr. Aiena has also filed and prosecuted trademark applications, as well as trademark opposition proceedings. Mr. Aiena also has significant transactional experience in mergers and acquisitions of high technology companies, and assisting clients in the evaluation of their patent and technology portfolios. Specific experiences include intellectual property due diligence investigations on the $4 Billion acquisition of a best-selling HIV treatment and the multi-billion dollar acquisition of genetically modified corn and other products.
