Overall
Great food and Dim Sum

I've been eating here for a few years now starting back when it was Peking Supreme. The new owner has done a fantastic job with the food quality and decor. When it comes to Chinese food, I am very picky and have tasted food in many different states. I'm always after a certain taste when it comes to Chinese food and while no single restaurant does every dish perfect, Tai Shan has the best "Northern" style dim sum in Montgomery County. It's what some Chinese call "zhao bing yul tiael". Quite different than the "Southern" style of dim sum that you pick from a cart. They do dim sum weekends only from 11:30 am till 2:30pm.

They have the best Shanghai steamed mini-pork buns (Shaio lung bao) in Montgomery County that I have found. From the taste, I'd say that's it's def made on premise. If someone knows of a place that has better shiao lung bao please let me know! Their pan-fried mini-pork buns are awesome too. I thinks it's called Chien Shen bao or something like that. Can't compare to Ding Tai Fong in Taipei but it's very good for DC.

The warm sweet soy bean milk and fried dough is a best buy, only $1.50 for each order at the time of this review. The fried dough (yul tiael) tastes like it's made on premises. Other must orders are the pan-fried chinese chives calzones. It's filled with vermicilli and the chives. Awesome flavor! best I've ever had. Brought back memories of breakfast in Taiwan it's that good. Sorry forgot what's it's called in Mandarin.

Some of my favorite dishes that can be ordered anytime: pork chop with spiced salt, the fresh garlic, jalapenos, and spring onions give this dish an irrestiable aroma not to mention the crispy pork chop, the beef chow fun has that special taste that conissours of chow fun know what I'm talking about, just the right amount of oil without any charring, a real tricky dish to get right, and the shredded crispy beef, again usually not over-cooked or burnt like a lot of places. Believe it or not, I am Chinese but I do like Chicken chow mein and here's it's white meat and my favorite. The shredded chicken with hot green pepper (jalapenos and leek) is very spicy which I really like and has an awesome flavor. Only for those that crave very spicy food though!

Weekends it's usually 90% asians dining in for the dim sum. For northern style dim sum in upper Montgomery County, you can't beat Tai Shan. Can't wait until the weekend!
