Dental Care
Professional dental cleanings – In order to perform a proper dental cleaning and oral exam, your cat will be anesthetized. A complete oral exam is done by the doctor, and the teeth are cleaned using the ultrasonic scaler, and then polished.
Vaccination
Your cat received vaccinations today. All injections were given subcutaneously (under the skin). After receiving a vaccination, it is possible for your cat to experience mild side effects. Illness Treatment

Parasites Treatment and Control
Flea and Tick Control- External parasite control is safe and effective. We recommend once a month, year round protection for all cats.
Behavioral Disorder Treatment
Vaccinations – Core vaccines are recommended for indoor and outdoor cats. Core vaccines include the rabies vaccine and the FVRCP vaccine (also called Feline Distemper vaccine). Outdoor cats are at higher risk for other infectious diseases, including the FeLV virus. We will discuss the appropriate vaccinations for your cat with you during your appointment. All vaccinations are based on your catâ€™s risk assessment.
Pain Management
Our philosophy is to manage each cat as an individual and focus on what works for your cat and you. Some ways we can help manage pain in cats include diet, supplements, local nerve blocks, medications, and acupuncture. Dr. Kirnos is a member of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.

If your cat is not feeling well, please call us right away. We are happy to get you in for an appointment the same day. We are experienced in managing many cat diseases, including diabetes, chronic kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, inflammatory bowel disease, asthma, lower urinary tract disease, pancreatitis, and much more. Our doctors are focused on doing extensive continuing education in feline medicine, and we pride ourselves with staying on top of the latest treatment options and therapeutics.
Heart Disease Treatment
Dr. Megan King, is available every first Thursday of the month for cardiology consultations and echocardiograms. Her consultations include an exam, blood pressure, ultrasound (echocardiogram) of the heart, ECG, and a review of any chest radiographs. Dr. King works closely with your doctor here at The Cat Hospital of Media and any needed follow up can be done here in our cat friendly hospital.
Kidney Disease Treatment
Her interests include, but are not limited to, kidney disease, autoimmune diseases and anything cats. Though she loves internal medicine, she also has a passion for emergency medicine and surgery. She loves to teach, and has presented at several local CE events. When she is not practicing veterinary medicine, she is spending time with her husband (also a veterinarian) and 3 cats (2 domestic shorthairs and a Devon Rex). She enjoys living in Manhattan (even during Covid-19) and loves finding new restaurants and safe activities all around the city.
Periodontal Disease Treatment

Dental Surgery
Oral health exams – Your catâ€™s oral health can affect their overall health and well-being. Oral tartar and gingivitis can progress to periodontal disease. Periodontal disease can lead to pain and infections, which could mean dental extractions. We will examine your catâ€™s teeth at every visit and recommend a dental cleaning whenever we see early signs of tartar and gingivitis. Our goal is to prevent the need for oral surgery and extractions whenever possible.
Veterinary Surgery
Spaying and Neutering
Spay and Neuter- We recommend spaying or neutering your cat at 5 months of age. Adult cats can also be spayed and neutered at any time. We work with feral cats (trap neuter release programs) too.

Laboratory Services
We have the ability to do immediate tests in house, including electrolytes, chemistry screen, urinalysis, blood glucose, FeLV/FIV tests, PCV and cytology.
X-Ray
Dental Radiology
Digital dental x-ray – Every dental gets full mouth dental radiographs with our new, state of the art digital dental unit. The radiographs are evaluated by the veterinarian. Studies show that the majority of periodontal disease in cats is under the gum line and not visible during a routine exam. The dental x-rays can catch disease before it becomes painful for your cat.
Microchipping
The Cat Hospital of Media recommends all cats have a microchip. You never know when it will be needed! We use ISO compatible microchips made by Home Again. These chips are required for international travel.

Note that grooming services are reserved for our established clients only.Â New patients can become established by scheduling an exam with one of our doctors first to evaluate your catsâ€™ grooming needs.
Senior Pet Care
Health Exams – Kittens will need 3-4 exams to properly vaccinate them and make sure they are free of infectious and contagious diseases. Adult cats aged 1-7 years need annual health exams. Cats over age 7 are considered senior pets and should be seen every 6 months.
