Veneers
At Tom F. Hall, DDS, MS, we have specialized in adult orthodontics in Houston for more than 25 years. Adult orthodontics is similar but different than for children. Adults are motivated to straighten teeth for various reasons. Many are life based, such as getting married, getting single, or addressing bite or jaw problems that have bothered them for some time. Adults may have tired of looking at crooked teeth in the mirror every morning, or having their dentist ask why they haven’t sought orthodontics. Many of our adult orthodontic patients have had previous braces as a teen or adult, and need re-treatment. Preparing for cosmetic dental work or replacing missing teeth often requires orthodontics first, to align the bite. Veneers and cosmetic dentistry to be successful should only be done after teeth are straight and the bite has been aligned.
Crowns
Your own teeth will have to undergo some preparatory work in order to accept the braces. This involves preparing the surface of the teeth for the adhesive for the braces, as well as preparing the surfaces of any crowns. You will also have a short period to wait while the adhesive cures, once the braces are in place.

Periodontal Surgery
Aligning the bite and straightening the teeth increases the success of the periodontal surgery, often eliminating the need for follow up surgery.

Dental Implants
Dental implants are long-term replacements for missing teeth that your oral and maxillofacial surgeon surgically places in the jawbone. Composed of titanium metal that fuses with the jawbone through a process called osseointegration, dental implants never slip and never decay. Because dental implants fuse with the jawbone, bone loss is generally not a problem.

Oral Surgery
Every orthodontist starts out in dental school. Upon completion of dental school, some graduates immediately go into practice as dentists. Others choose to pursue a specialty, which requires additional schooling during a two- to three-year residency program. There are nine specialties sanctioned by the American Dental Association. Some you are likely familiar with: pediatric dentistry (dentistry for children), periodontics (dentistry focusing on the gums), and oral surgery.

Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is surgery to correct a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws, and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. It is a recognized international surgical specialty, and it is one of the nine specialties of dentistry recognized by the American Dental Association.
Tooth Extractions
Most children lose all their baby teeth by age 13, and by the end of their teen years, the jaw bones will harden and stop growing. Orthodontic procedures for adults often take more time and can involve tooth extraction or oral surgery. Receiving early orthodontic treatment as a child can help prevent the need for orthodontics as an adult, leaving little to no chance of extraction or surgery in the future.
Bone Grafting
Maximal surgical precision is accomplished without soft tissue injury in a practically blood free surgical field. Artificial particulate bone grafting material is placed over the activated bone (augmentation) prior to suturing. The activated tooth-supporting bone will allow and enhance accelerated tooth movement two weeks post operatively. Both upper and lower jaws can undergo the procedures at the same in-office appointment. A single tooth or groups of teeth can also undergo the procedures included in accelerated orthodontics.

Orthodontics
We provide Early Interceptive Preventative orthodontic treatment for children age 7 through the teen years. Special attention to growth and development problems at this age can assure more favorable outcomes later. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends all children be seen for an orthodontic screening at age 7. However, orthodontics is possible at any age, so its never too late.
