Preventive Care

Dental Care
Dental cleanings are available and recommended yearly. Dental procedures include ultrasonic scaling and polishing with our new Dentalaire system, and digital dental radiographs. Surgical tooth extractions are done when required.

Veterinary Ophthalmology
A 3 year old quarter horse mare was noted to have squinting of her left eye with most of her eye shut, and copious tearing with some white ocular discharge. Due to pain she was resistant to let her owner touch it to allow closer evaluation. She is in a dry lot with 2 other horses, and is fed grass hay. After sedation and blocking the nerves around the eye, evaluation was allowed. What is wrong with this eye and what is the likelihood this will heal even with intense management? For horses who have eye problems and are difficult to treat- what system can be used?
Nutritional Counseling
In December of 2017, a 22 year old gelding with history of weight loss, topline muscle atrophy and attitude change over previous 3 months was seen. Hair coat appear longer than previous years, especially, on limbs. What disease could cause these symptoms? What further testing could be done to diagnose this condition?
Comprehensive Examination
The cause of colic and be difficult but if pain is persistent further diagnostics would be recommended. A physical exam along with auscultation(listening with stethoscope) of the abdomen. Rectal palpation to evaluate for abnormalities (gas distension, abnormal positioning of the intestine). Passing a nasogastric tube to evaluate for reflux from the stomach.

Illness Treatment

Parasites Treatment and Control
We provide field service calls including preventative care such as vaccinations and deworming. Our doctors can perform artificial insemination in mares and pregnancy checks. All of our veterinarians are also accredited in Colorado to issue health certificates and draw blood for Coggins testing. After hours emergency care is also another of our services.
Pain Management
Individual treatment plans are created for each horse that specify factors such as nutrition, fluid therapy, on-going tests, pain relief and antibiotic treatments required. Management is also tailored throughout horses recovery and any complications that may arise are treated in accordance with current best practice.

Surgery services we provide are spay/neuter, general soft tissue surgeries, lacerations, and scheduled cesarean sections. We also do some orthopedic surgeries, fracture and lateral suture cruciate repair. Intraoperative anesthesia is monitored by our technicians using pulse oximetry, ECG and blood pressure.

Veterinary Surgery
We currently have 4 small animal doctors that treat dogs and cats specifically. We have an in house laboratory from Idexx and are able to perform blood chemistries, CBC’s and Sedi View urinalysis. We have computerized DR radiography, dental radiography and ultrasound. Our clinic provides high quality medicine, dental and surgical services to our small animal patients.

Laboratory Services
The large animal portion of our clinic includes, 6 large animal doctors (3 equine specialized and 4 dairy specialized). The large animal clinic treats equine, caprine, ovine, porcine patients along with dairy and beef. Our dairy herd sizes vary from 400-6000 cows. Services provided include traditional veterinary duties, as well as employee training and consulting for dairy/beef clients. We have a haul-in facility with treatment area for equine patients. Minor surgical procedures are performed under general anesthesia for small ruminant and porcine species. Diagnostic equipment for our large animals include: dairy herd BCF reproductive ultrasounds, SOUND Next DR machine, Sonosite ultrasound and in-house IDEXX Blood work.
X-Ray
We perform comprehensive lameness exams that may include peripheral nerve blocks, joint injections (including pro stride), digital radiography, and digital ultrasound.
Dental Radiology

Small Animal Vet
Dr. Owen began working at Animal Clinic in 1998 after graduating from Colorado State University in 1996. His favorite animals are cats, and he enjoys cycling, playing golf, and jamming away on his guitar when he isn't on the job.
Large Animal Vet
Dr. Sagehorn graduated from Colorado State University in 1987 with his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. He then practiced in Southern Colorado for three years before joining the Animal Clinic staff in 1990. In his spare time enjoys hunting, shooting, mountain biking, and completing projects at home. His main area of expertise is in dairy production medicine. His favorite animals are dairy cattle.
