Dental Examination

Resin Composite
Composite restorations, also known as white or tooth-colored fillings, are an important tool in achieving a cosmetic smile. Composite restorations are a resin filling material that can be bonded directly to the tooth and mimic the natural colors of teeth making them nearly invisible. Composite restorations come in a wide range of shades and colors which allow us to match your tooth color making the filling blend in and disappear in your smile. Also because composite resin can be glued (bonded) directly to the tooth surface, we can use this white filling material to change the shape of chipped, deformed, or crooked teeth.

Dr. Art Boss grew up in Kingsville. He had the goal to be a dentist since the age of 5. His father was a dental lab technician and owned a crown and bridge dental lab where Dr. Boss worked in High School and College. After 2 years of college, he attended The University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston where he was one of the youngest graduates obtaining his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1985. Bridges
Dental bridges allow us to replace missing teeth by bridging the gap between existing teeth. In essence, dental bridges are a series of crowns that are fused together and cemented in place. Root Canal Treatment
Sedation dentistry refers to the use of sedative medications, which are administered to a patient ahead of a dental procedure in order to help them feel calm and relaxed for the duration of their appointment. There are different types of sedation available depending on the severity of your needs and the nature of the dental work that you will be having. For example, light sedation is typically recommended for patients with mild anxiety or who are only having a check-up or a simple treatment like a filling. Meanwhile, deep sedation may be recommended for those patients with crippling fear and/or those who are having invasive dental treatments such as root canals or extractions.

Dr. Packard graduated Magna Cum Laude from BYU and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from UT Health Science Center- San Antonio. He also has extra education and licenses in sedation to make dentistry as comfortable and painless as possible. Dr. Packard has extensive training in oral surgery and cosmetic dentistry.
Tooth Extractions

Orthodontics
Orthodontics is the movement of teeth to make them straighter to improve esthetics and function. Traditionally we moved teeth with full metal braces with wires and brackets, but with today’s technology, we can straighten teeth with clear aligners. Molds of your teeth are laser scanned and a series of clear trays are custom designed and fabricated on a computer. As a patient progresses through the steps of treatment, their teeth move into alignment and become straight. Clear aligners have many advantages over metal braces: they are practically invisible, easier to clean, and can double as bleach or fluoride trays.
Invisalign Orthodontics
Braces
Loose brackets. Loose braces brackets can be temporarily reattached to the tooth with a piece of orthodontic wax. If a wire breaks or pops out of a bracket, be careful to avoid cutting your cheek, tongue, or gum with the wire. If you can’t reposition the wire, cover it with orthodontic wax.

Teeth Whitening
Whiter and brighter teeth are an essential part of smile cosmetics. Tooth stains are intrinsic (coming from within the tooth), or extrinsic (coming from the outside of the tooth… on the exterior surface). Bleaching works better with extrinsic stain, surface stain on the outside of the tooth caused by pigmented foods and drinks. We can bleach the externally stained teeth with in-office one-time bleaching, custom made take home bleach trays, or over the counter bleaching strips. Whitening is more difficult to achieve when the stain is deeply part of the tooth structure as seen in the intrinsic stain. Examples of intrinsic stain include tetracycline antibiotic stain, developmental malformations, and darkness caused by a dead tooth. In some intrinsic stain cases, we can do internal bleaching to bleach the tooth from the inside-out.
