Plantar fasciitis is pretty simple to diagnose with a physical exam. We look at your foot type, mechanics and we evaluate your heel and arch for painful areas. Sometimes in an x-ray we see a bone spur on the heel. Usually, you have most of our pain in your first step out of bed in the am or after sitting for a while then returning to activity.

Diabetes Care
People with diabetes are much more likely to suffer nerve damage, circulation problems, and infections—all problems that directly affect the feet. The lack of feeling and poor blood flow caused by poor diabetes care can allow a small blister or wound to progress into a serious infection that could lead to amputation. Nerve damage—also called neuropathy —can cause the skin to dry and crack, which makes them susceptible to bacteria and fungi entering the body.

Because there are varying types and levels of severity for toenail fungus, it’s important to have your condition diagnosed by a podiatric physician.
Hammertoes
Hammertoe is a deformity in the foot that causes the bending or curling of the toe in a downward rather than forward pointing fashion. This deformity is commonly the result of a muscle imbalance between the tendons on top and the bottom of the toe. Hammertoes can be flexible or rigid and they can affect some or all of the toes on the foot. Most cases of hammertoe are generally found to be on the second or third toe.
Heel Spurs
In most cases, heel spurs do not directly cause any symptoms. Although there are some cases where heel spurs are associated with intermittent or chronic pain. However, the heel spur itself is not necessarily the root of the pain. Instead, the pain is attributed to the inflammation or irritation of the plantar fascia ligament. Pain is usually worse in the morning when you first wake up, but it dissipates as ligaments loosen.

Ingrown Toenails
An ingrown toenail—also referred to as onychocryptosis— occurs when the edges or corners of the nail grow into the skin next to the nail. When this happens, the edge of the nail cuts through the skin, which causes inflammation. This inflammation initially presents itself as a minor discomfort, but it could potentially become a recurring problem and can easily become infected.

The most common heel pain seen in our office is known as plantar fasciitis which can occur in athletes as well as the general population. The plantar fascia is a three-band thick ligament-like tissue that supports the bottom (or plantar surface) of the foot. It starts in the heel and spans the length of the foot to the toes.

In addition to poor shoe choice, there are other foot conditions that contribute to the development of corns and calluses—like hammertoe. Those who have foot deformities may also be at a higher risk of developing corns and calluses.
