Overall
Don't know what your going to get

I have been to AAMC several times for the ER & been admitted as a patient. I have had excellent care & the worst care! Last night had to go to ER, was in there for over 8 hours! Just to get a chest X-ray & bloodwork, & when I finally saw the practioner which, didn't even see a real dr.! She told me my X-ray results, but did not say anything about my bloodwork!
Then had this nurse come in, to tell me how to take my meds, & she could even tell me!! She was stumbling with her words, she didn't know much English & I looked at the script & had to read it to HER!
I had always had good care there, I don't know what they did, but I don't like it!
Oh & never go to their wound care, I was going there for 2 yrs. I had never missed an app. & one time I called in 2 days before, saying I would not be there due to my best friend died, then when I called back, they said I am not to come back!!! Cause I canceled a app. ONE app. Over 2 yrs!! & the dr. Had horrible bed side manners, left there in tears many times, one time, he was talking about having to amputate my toe, I was so scared & nervous, I said you can put me under right? He got this attitude & said, with an attitude, yes, I can do that! & I said good, cause I'm nervous & it would be easier on me, he says, yea easier on you, bur harder on me!!! I was like I can't believe he just said that! Since when does the patients worries & fears come after the drs.?! He just didn't want to go through all if that stuff to cut a toe off, he just wanted to numb it so it would be easier on him, not caring how scared I was, or how upsetting losing a toe would be for me!! Here let me take your toe off!! To me, it's a part of me!!!
But when I have been admitted, I have had the nicest nurses, live the rooms, they were always clean. This hospital is a lot better then doctors, laurel, PG, I know Georgetown is good, my mom was there, but it's old & you don't get private room, for me private room is a must! I can't sleep having another person in the room, up all night, & having to deal with their loyd visitors.
I don't know, it could have been due to they have been remodeling their ER for the past couple yrs!!! It was just a mess! Patients all in the hallway! When you did get in the back, the bed wad a inch thick pad, no pillow, unlike before, you got a mattress, pillow, bed that has the rails go up.
Well, not sure if this is all do to reconstruction, I have a neighbor who is a nurse, & she said it's a very hard hospital to get into, cause theydont just hire anyone. & my stepdad is a volunteer there. So hope fully, it's just due to all the renovations going on.

Overall
care and quality of sevrice

I would not take a dying animal to this carnival. Most of the staff especially the midnight staff are the most uncaring people I have ever met. One cannot say they all had a bad day. They are rude and self centered and one cannot blame just one because they were all like that. I also want to let you know this was a slow night so if you want service call the ambulance because if you don't they just like to have you wait. When I say slow there were less than four people in the room on a sunday late night early monday. We saw the doctor at 1 AM and the next tiem it was % to say it was going to be longer. How rude are these people. The nurse looked like a sgt vionce carter wanna be and the tech. who hooked up the heart monitor acted like it was a task.

I will never and also tell other people in Calvert County and also the other Anne Arundel County Hospital Baltimore Washington is much better. Also the person that you tell your concerns to promised to get back but it has been almost a year now and we received no response.

Overall
PATIENT'S PERSPECTIVE

I was a patient in both the old AAH and new AAMC. I had surgery both times, once for a gallbladder prodedure, the second for a more serious operation - a bowel resection. I received excellent care by the nursing staff. However, for being in a private room, which had just recently been opened, the cleaning staff did not do a good job. I would highly recommend AAMC. (my husband was also treated in the ER. The triage was good in that it took him ahead of others due to fact he was bleeding and was on a blood thinner.
