General Info
Psychiatric Associates of Austin is dedicated to providing individualized, quality mental health care to children and adolescents. Our goal is to improve a child's ability to function in both social and academic environments, and to provide their family with the parenting and communication skills necessary to allow everyone to function to the best of their abilities. Treatment services are provided by William Mark Konyecsni, MD. Dr. Konyecsni graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School, at San Antonio. He remained there for his Psychiatry residency, and Child and Adolescent Fellowship. While in training, Dr. Konyecsni participated in clinical research on ADD / ADHD treatment and worked extensively with developmentally disabled children and adults. This provided him with invaluable clinical experience with special needs individuals. After graduating from training, Dr. Konyecsni worked in multiple settings: outpatient clinics, acute inpatient units for children and adolescents, residential treatment centers and a juvenile detention facility. Dr. Konyecsni and his family moved to Austin in 2006 and have fallen in love with their new hometown. He is committed to providing quality mental health services for children and adolescents in the Southwest Austin area.

**Psychiatric Evaluations & Medication Management** Every new patient to our practice will receive a full psychiatric evaluation, which can take between 1 and 1 and a half hours to complete. It would be helpful to have the following information with you for the first visit: the name and contact number of your child's pediatrician or family doctor, notes about any prior mental health or behavior treatment, the names of any previously tried and current medications, copies of past psychological and school testing reports, and individualized education plans (IEP). We can request these records if you do not have them, but it may take weeks to get this information. At the end of the evaluation, Dr. Konyecsni will discuss your child's condition with you, and the options for treatment. The treatment recommendations may include the use of medications depending on the severity of the conditions, and the age of your child. As a parent, you will make the final decision on treatment before any medications are prescribed. We prefer to handle your prescription needs during your scheduled appointments. If you need a refill, please call our office and allow 24 hours for us to renew your prescription. Whenever possible, we will call the refill into the pharmacy of your choice. Please give us the name and phone number of your pharmacy when you call. There are some medications which cannot be called into the pharmacy and require a written prescription. To renew these medications, it is best to call before you run out of medication, and we will have the written prescription ready for pickup no later than the next business day after your call. No prescriptions will be called in after hours or on weekends. **Behavior Management** Childhood psychiatric problems can be associated with behavior problems which do not change with medications, and there are behavior problems which are not treated with medications. In both cases, behavior management, communication, and consistent parenting can be very helpful to most families. During your child's initial and follow up visits, these treatments will be discussed with you. If your child or family needs long term or specialized counseling services, we may need to refer you to providers outside of our practice. **Special Education Advocacy** Many psychiatric conditions can affect a child's school performance, and it is important that the school understands your child's condition and unique needs. The best way to ensure that your child is receiving all the services they need is to request an individualized educational plan (IEP) from the school. If your child has an IEP and you are having difficulty working with your child's teachers, or you are having difficulty obtaining educational support for your child, please let Dr. Konyecsni know, and he can assist you in working with the school **Phone Calls** During the week, Dr. Konyecsni will return your phone calls during regular business hours. The doctor is on-call evenings and weekends for emergencies for established patients only and can be reached through our office telephone system (512-291-1711). The system will prompt you to leave information in the emergency voice mailbox, and will call the doctor for you
